Summer courses in Cambridge...

Unveiling the power of Shakespeare’s work

The Shakespeare Adventure Programme takes place at the University of Cambridge in England. The University was established in 1209 – more than 350 years before Shakespeare was born! Thirty-one colleges make up the University, all of which are based in central Cambridge and within easy walking distance of each other. The Shakespeare Festival takes place in the following colleges (all performances are open air and are performed in the gardens): St John’s College, Trinity College, King’s College, Downing College, Homerton College and Robinson College. The grounds of the Colleges are spacious with the river Cam running through the heart of the University, and the architectural magnificence of its buildings is second to none. It is a tranquil and stunning environment in which to live and learn, and yet it stands in the heart of Cambridge, just a few minutes stroll from all the major shops, restaurants and cafes.

The Residence

Students on CADA’s Cambridge summer course will live and work in the same rooms and environment as Cambridge University students. The Cambridge ‘experience’ is certainly one to savour and all students and staff have single rooms in one of the College accommodation blocks (there are no shared rooms so students can be assured of some privacy, despite the hectic schedule). The whole programme will be housed in a single block so students will be near to each other and also to Faculty staff, should any problems occur. All rooms include a bed with linens, a dresser or wardrobe, and a desk and chair. Every day, a college employee, called a ‘bedder’, tidies the student’s room and makes the bed. Each floor of the accommodation contains a number of shower/bath rooms which are shared by the occupants on that floor.

Supervision and Safety

All CADA staff are available 24 hours a day in the event of emergency for the duration of the Cambridge summer course. There is a programme office which is manned throughout the day and all students will be given the mobile numbers of Faculty staff should they encounter any difficulties whilst outside the College grounds. Senior CADA staff live in the same accommodation block as the students to ensure round-the-clock availability. In addition, the college gates are manned by a staff of College Porters who are on duty 24 hours a day and always available in case of emergency.

All students are required to sign into College between 10 and 11pm on each night of the Cambridge summer course, and whilst the College Common Rooms and TV rooms are available for students to socialise quietly with new friends, it is expected that all students will be in their own rooms and quiet by midnight.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

We want you to enjoy your Cambridge summer course with The Shakespeare Adventure Programme, which means that we won’t permit anyone to spoil it for you. Any students who damage College property or persist in making excessive noise or engage in any other anti-social activity will be removed from the program. Smoking, consumption of alcohol or drugs are, of course, strictly forbidden, and any student found in violation of this fundamental rule will be expelled immediately from the program and returned home at the family’s expense.
